US Military’s Failure to Assist Veterans with Brain Injuries
As a follow up to a blog I wrote a few days ago about an article on NPR.com which details the struggles of the Wade’s search for adequate medical treatment, an article in the LA Times also details the struggles many veterans face after they return home and a new investigation into this devastating trend of poor medical care for our service men and women. The military medical system’s failure to diagnose one of the classic wounds of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, mild yet still debilitating traumatic brain injury, and even more troubling, a decision by the Pentagon’s health plan to deny an essential cognitive therapy treatment for troops with brain injuries because of a dubious study that runs counter to established scientific evidence.
