Understanding Brain Injury: A Focus on Veterans
The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey will hold a seminar entitled, Understanding Brain Injury: A Focus on Veterans. The seminar will be presented in conjunction with the New Jersey Division of Disability Services Thursday June 10, 2010, from 9:15 AM – 3:30 PM at the Cherry Hill Public Library.
The seminar will be presented by William A.B. Ditto, MSW, LSW, the Director of the Division of Disability Services at the New Jersey Department of Human Services, and George Carnevale, PhD, a clinical neuropsychologist in private practice in Northern New Jersey and at Rehabilitation Specialists, a community-based provider of neuro-rehabilitation services.
The seminar will discuss topics such as:
- an overview of brain injury, including definition, symptoms, and prevalence in New Jersey and nationally.
- state funded programs and services specifically for individuals with brain injuries.
- resource materials to better understand brain injury and available sources of service and support.
- critical variables in the identification of mild TBI and PTSD in the returning veteran population.
- research and clinical phenomenon of co-occurring mild TBI and PTSD.
- the research support for prolonged adjustment difficulties for veterans with mild TBI and PTSD.
- effective treatment approaches based on the appropriate diagnosis of mild TBI and PTSD.
