UC scientist gets $1.7 million NIH grant
A scientist at the University of Cincinnati received a $1.7 million grant to assist him with molecular research, which hopefully will lead to better treatments for traumatic brain injuries. Kenneth Strauss will study two types of molecules known as eicosanoids, which are created by injured brain cells, to confirm that they can protect healthy brain cells from further damage.
Strauss’ research, if successful, could lead to drugs that would assist in increasing the level of helpful molecules in the brain. The increase in these productive brain molecules would increase the number of successful brain injury recoveries, and reduce the need for alternative forms of treatment.
