One head injury can lead to another, says study

A recent story on CBC News’ website features a new study that shows that children who have suffered a head injury are twice as likely to suffer from a second injury within that same year. In the article, Bonnie Swaine of the University of Montreal studied pediatrician’s billings in conjunction with interviews of those patients’ parents to find a correlation between an initial injury, and the increased risk of a second injury.

The article goes on to warn parents to be more conscientious and observant of the activities their children participate in. I believe this study is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the steps that need to be taken in order to begin the prevention of traumatic brain injuries in children.
