More on TBI in Iraq
As I’ve written in previous posts, traumatic brain injury is being called the “signature wound” of the war in Iraq. A recent two-part story on NBC Nightly News (part one, part two) talks more about these injuries, most sustained by the use of IEDs (improvised explosive devices), and how our service members are being treated. One of the biggest problems faced by the troops right now are brain injuries that go undetected. Soldiers with no obvious sign of injury are sent back into duty; however, brain injuries do not always show right away. In his blog posting on the Daily Nightly, chief science and health correspondent Robert Bazell talks more about the story on which he reported and the tremendous number of soliders afflicted with brain injury. Thank you for Caroline Leipf from the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey for sharing this information.
