Bob Woodruff ’83 receives prestigious award from NCAA
In the time since Bob Woodruff, ABC News Correspondent since 1996 and host of World News Tonight, suffered a traumatic brain injury while on assignment in Iraq, he has dedicated his life to raising awareness of the devastating effects of brain injuries. Since his injury in December 2005, Woodruff now spends his time speaking at national engagements and has also written a book on traumatic brain injuries and the need for greater care for those returning home from service after having suffered a traumatic brain injury with his wife Lee.
And now Woodruff is being recognized for his efforts. Colgate University, Woodruff’s alma mater, presented him with the prestigious 2008 NCAA Silver Anniversary Award. The award recognizes former student-athletes who have completed successful collegiate careers in various sports and have excelled in their chosen professions. Woodruff was also inducted into Colgate’s Athletic Hall of Honor in 2006.
I think it is great to see a survivor of a traumatic brain injury take what he has been through and use that as a way to raise awareness of the devastating, but not debilitating, effects of brain injuries. You can read more on Woodruff’s award here.
